Jelly-like blue sea creatures have been spotted this week off Southern California’s coast.
Miles of by the wind sailors, or Velella velellas, have been seen around San Clemente Island.
Todd Mansur, with Dana Wharf Sportfishing, says many were being gobbled up by very large Mola Molas, or sunfish.
"And they were just lethargically with their mouths in a fixed open position just sucking down these by-the-wind sailors," he said. "It was actually pretty neat to see."
Valerie Burkholder with the Aquarium of the Pacific says if you see them try not to handle them.
"Just because some people may have an allergic reaction to them," she said. "I would have loved to see that, that sounds so cool to me."
She says the last time there were so many off the Southern California coast was 2015.
Mansur says seeing them now is a sign of good things to come including the return of swordfish and albacore.
