(KNX 1070) -- Los Angeles Police Department detectives are hoping for the public's help in locating the driver who hit a cyclist and severely injuring him.
The driver of a Toyota Corolla rear-ended a man riding a bike eastbound on Vernon Ave, near Compton Ave.
The Los Angeles Fire Department transported the man to a local hospital where he was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
During the investigation, the registered owner cooperated with detectives and identified the driver of the vehicle as Jose Miguel Mendez Lopez.
Lopez had called the owner of the car and told her he'd been involved in an accident but refused to tell her where he was.
