More Rain on the Way as Residents Worry About Collapsed Hillside in Santa Clarita

The first of two storms is set to move into the Southland tonight and bring rain throughout the weekend.

Up to two inches of rain could fall in parts of Southern California this weekend and residents can expect minor flooding and burn area debris flows, as well as slippery roads and possible delays at Los Angeles International Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds of 20 to 40 mph also are forecast for this weekend, the NWS said.

Monday will be dry, but a second storm is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rain to the Southland Tuesday and Wednesday.

There is a threat of moderate debris flow and the possibility of flooded roads, the NWS said.

The rain has has some Canyon Country residents worried because the hillside behind their homes has already started to slide.

Sections of brick walls have been knocked down, causing cracks in the patios and caused the backyards to simply collapse and drop down eight to 10 feet.

That's why authorities yellow tags several homes. There are concerns that with more weather on the way, the saturated hill could start sliding again and possibly take some homes down too.

The area is covered with tarps and plastic sheeting, to try to keep the soil from becoming any more saturated.  But a geologist tells me…they're going to run some tests on the hillside.
