Saying Goodbye to Three Legends

(KNX 1070) -- Wednesday the world said goodbye to a popular actor/comedian, an iconic WWE star and a beloved member of a 1970s singing duo.

Einstein was a two-time Emmy-winner. He had a recurring role on HBO’s "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and created the wacky character Super Dave Osborne. 

Einstein first made his name as a writer. He won his first Emmy as part of the writing team for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, whose staff also included Steve Martin.

Einstein is survived by his wife Roberta, his daughter Erin, his son-in-law Andrew Dale, his grandchildren Ethan and Zoe, and his brothers Cliff Einstein and Brooks.

Einstein had recently been diagnosed with cancer and passed away in Indian Wells. He was 76.

The musician is best known as the "Captain" in the '70s and '80s husband-and-wife duo The Captain and Tennille, died Wednesday, his publicist said in a statement. He was 76.

The cause of death was renal (kidney) failure, his publicist Harlan Boll said. 

The title track from his debut album with his then-wife, Toni Tennille, "Love Will Keep Us Together," reached the top of the Billboard chart in July 1975 and won Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards. Their other top 10 hits included  "Muskrat Love," "The Way I Want to Touch You," "Lonely Night (Angel Face)" and "Shop Around."

"He was a brilliant musician with many friends who loved him greatly. I was at my most creative in my life, when I was with him," Toni Tennille said in a statement. The pair were married in 1975 and divorced in 2014. She was with when Dragon when he died, according to Boll's statement.

WWE Hall of Famer "Mean" Gene Okerlund, who for years interviewed wrestling icons from Hulk Hogan to the Iron Sheikh, has died. He was 76.

WWE said in a statement that it is "saddened" to learn about the announcer and host's death, and extended its condolences to his family, friends and fans. No further details were provided about his death.
