(KNX 1070) -- An Upland woman has been jailed in the death of her infant daughter and the injuries of her son, who was dropped from a second-floor landing.

Neighbors told police they saw 24-year-old Tierra Ortega drop the 18-month-old boy onto the concrete and when police arrived, she jumped, head first.

Ortega suffered facial injuries, and her son had a broken foot.

But when officers entered the family's apartment, they discovered a six-month-old girl, unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Ortega is charged with homicide, attempted homicide and child abuse resulting in death.

The father is said to be devastated.
