(KNX 1070) -- According to a random audit in Los Angeles by Consumer Watchdog, two-thirds of 50 L.A.-area grocery and convenience stores required by the state to refund consumer deposits for empty beverage containers refuse to issue the required refunds.
Consumer Watchdog launched an undercover video investigation of several stores and based on the videos the stores were assigned a grade of easy, difficult or no access.
The audited stores are kept on a list by the state agency in charge of recycling, CalRecycle, and are required to refund bottle deposits because there is no nearby recycling center.
