"Sex and the City" pulled one over on fans by having Justin Theroux play two different characters. They were minor roles, but Theroux still looks back on the experience with a sense of humor.

In an interview with Willie Geist of "Sunday Today," Theroux, 49, touched on his duel role situation - first appearing in Season 1 as Jared and then returning in Season 2 as Vaughn Wysel. Both characters had run-ins with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker).

Theroux began by addressing the likely shortage of male actors in New York after filming "Sex and the City." "It's about girls who are dating all the time, you burn through every single male actor in New York," Theroux said.

He continued, "I did a small part in the first one. You know, enters fram, says a few things and then leaves frame."

It was then that producers decided to have him back on the show.

"And they were like, 'Why don't you come back?'" Theroux said. "And their idea was that they would just shave my head. And they're like, 'Voila! Total transformation.'"

And while he's reminiscing about his days on "Sex and the City," he's not opposed to returning for the revival that's in the works. In a conversation with E! News last month, Theroux expressed that he "would love to" join the project.

"If they wanted to have me, I'd do 'Sex and the City' again," he said. "It's sort of like a rite of passage, I think, in New York, at the time, when you're a younger actor, to do 'Sex and the City.'"
