1 dead in fiery, wrong-way crash on 101 Freeway

LOS ANGELES (KNX) – A fiery, wrong-way crash on the Hollywood (101) Freeway left one person dead Monday morning.

It happened around 4 a.m. on the southbound Hollywood Freeway at Alvarado Street.

California Highway Patrol Officer Ramon Kendricks told City News Service that witnesses reported a wrong-way motorist traveling northbound in southbound lanes.

Three cars were involved in the collision, with two of the cars going up in flames, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. One person had to be extricated from the car.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. One person was hospitalized in unknown condition, while two others had minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the crash, a SigAlert was issued, resulting in the shutdown of all southbound lanes of the Hollywood Freeway at Melrose Avenue.

All lanes reopened around 8:30 a.m.
