The 10th annual Los Angeles Fleet Week kicked off on Wednesday.

United States Navy representatives started the celebrations at the USS Iowa Museum in San Pedro.


“We are highlighting our shared heritage and mission with the city of Los Angeles,” Rear Admiral Rich Jarrett said. “America is fundamentally a maritime nation. The oceans that bound our east and west coasts are essential to the economic vitality, global influence, and national Security of our nation.”

Fleet Week, a celebration of U.S Armed Services men and women, is the first event in the 250th celebration of the U.S.

“ While we're here, invite everyone, all Angelenos, to come down to San Pedro, take a tour of USS Essex or the Coast Guard Cutter's halibut and terrible horn,” Jarret continued. “We're here to meet you, spend time with you in the community, and we look forward to an incredible week.

The celebration of the US Navy, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen not only features ship tours, but there's also a waterfront festival, live entertainment competitions, and lots of community engagement.
