An 11-year-old boy was fatally stabbed at a Santa Ana hotel, and his mother was taken into custody on Wednesday.
At 9:25 a.m., officers with the Santa Ana Police Department responded to the La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Orange County Airport after receiving a call from a woman who saidher son was dead inside the hotel room.
"When our officers arrived, they located the woman outside of the hotel room and she had told officers that she had also ingested some sort of substance," Officer Natalie Garcia told KNX News' Pete Demetriou. "That woman was quickly transported to a local hospital. She remains in custody and in stable condition."
Officers then went inside the hotel room and found a boy suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Demetriou reported that the woman and her son had been living at the hotel room for weeks, but it's unclear why.
The room has been sealed off.
