The bullet came through a window, hitting the teenager as he played video games, police said.

The shooting took place at around 6 pm in the 900 block of North Raymond Avenue.

Emergency responders administered CPR at the scene and transported the boy, now identified as Iran Moreno-Balvaneda, to an area hospital, where he was declared dead.

“He is a straight-A student. He spends all his time inside his room, with his family, and today is not there,” said Pasadena Police Chief John E. Perez. “We don’t know who did this yet, but we will. We will catch these criminals and we will catch them quick.”

Police theorize the shooting — which they do not believe targeted Moreno-Balvaneda or his family — stemmed from a spike in gang activity in Pasadena.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call Pasadena police at (626) 744-4241. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous may call L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

A GoFundMe has been set up to assist the Moreno-Balvaneda with funeral costs.
