A 14-year-old boy died Tuesday night following a hit-and-run crash in Apple Valley just after 8 p.m. The crash happened at the intersection of Ottawa and Navajo Roads, according to the Apple Valley Police Department.
Witnesses said the teen was hit by a white or silver two-door coupe that was driving more than 60 mph while going east on Ottawa Road, investigators said. The teen was hit as he crossed the Ottawa Road going south from the James A. Woody Community Center.

The teen, identified as Lawrence Andrews by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, died of his injuries at the scene. Friends said classmates have said Andrews was an Antelope Valley High School football player, and his death was a big loss for the community.
“The Sundevil Football Family lost a great one last night,” members of the AVHS Football team said in a Facebook post. “His laughter, sincerity, grit and passion for football, family and friends will truly be missed. We love you Lawrence and know your impact on all of us will always be remembered and carried on.”
Based on witness descriptions, investigators believe the suspect who hit Andrews was driving a white or silver Nissan 350Z or an Infiniti G35.
Anyone with any information or anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Deputy R. Grissom or Deputy J. Malocco at the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station at (760) 240-7400 of Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001.
