Costa Mesa Police busted two smoke shops for allegedly selling thousands of nitrous oxide canisters.
On Feb. 17, officers arrested a driver who drove into an active police scene, according to the department. During the arrest, nitrous oxide was found in the passenger seat.
Roxi Fyad, a spokesperson for the police department, told KNX News’ Emily Valdez that officers located the smoke shops where it was purchased and confiscated nitrous oxide in a variety of fruity flavors like strawberry mango fruit punch, coconut, and orange.

“About 678 large cylinders and over 5,000 small and 20 chargers in one location, and then [at] the other location, they took about 3 large cylinders and about 1,000 small and 20 chargers,” she said.
This comes after the Orange County Board of Supervisors passed a law that would close loopholes in the state law banning the sale of nitrous oxide other than for commercial use.
