2 dead in Lake Balboa shooting involving police

Two men were shot and killed Wednesday morning, one of them reportedly by police, in the Lake Balboa area of the San Fernando Valley.

The shooting was reported at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 17200 block of Valerio Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A department spokesman said there was a confirmed officer-involved shooting at that address, but released no specific details.

Another officer told KTLA5 that police had responded to a call of a someone having a mental health crisis at the location. Police shot and killed one person, according to the station.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman said crews responded after being summoned by police at about 8:10 a.m., but did not transport anyone to a hospital.

Two men, one believed to be 62 years old and the other 40 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz, but the fire department did not have information about how they were killed.
