Homicide detectives in Long Beach Thursday were investigating the shooting deaths of two apparently homeless men whose bodies were found in a location near Compton Creek and the Long Beach (710) Freeway.

Officers responded to the area about 8:35 p.m. Wednesday to assist Long Beach Fire Department personnel who had located a body, Long Beach police said.
"Upon arrival, officers located two male adult victims with gunshot wounds to the upper body," according to a Long Beach Police Department statement.
Fire department personnel determined the men were dead and homicide detectives were summoned to investigate.
"The motive for the shooting and the circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation," according to police, who said both men "appeared to be experiencing homelessness."
The men's identities were withheld pending next-of-kin notifications. It was unclear how old they were.
