Two people were hospitalized following a house fire in West Toluca Lake on Wednesday morning.

Firefighters with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to 11015 W. Sarah St. around 2:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found two residents outside the home who were woken up by the fire alarm.

Captain Cody Weireter told KNX News’ Jon Baird that the two residents alerted firefighters that there were people still trapped inside.

“Firefighters made an immediate aggressive attack inside with hose lines and were able to rescue two individuals that were inside an adult female and an adult male, one on the first floor and one on the second floor,” he said.

Three cats were killed and a dog was resuscitated by firefighters. It’s believed there were eight animals inside the apartment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
