LONG BEACH (CNS) - The second motorist allegedly involved in a fatal crash in Long Beach a week ago was arrested, and both men remained in custody Friday facing a vehicular manslaughter charge.

The crash occurred about 11 p.m. June 16 at Willow Street and Caspian Avenue, west of the Los Angeles River, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police said 21-year-old Jacqueline Zamarripa of Long Beach was ejected from the front passenger seat of a pickup and died at the scene.

Zamarripa was riding in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Willow Street while a light-colored SUV was being driven in circles -- doing "donuts" -- in the intersection at Caspian Avenue, police said.

According to police, the SUV struck the Silverado, causing the Silverado to lose control and hit a tree in the center median. The driver of the Silverado -- Noe Jose Menjivar, 20 of Carson -- remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, but the SUV kept going, police said.

On the day after the crash, Saul Alfas, 20, of Carson -- the alleged driver of the SUV -- walked into the lobby of Long Beach police headquarters and surrendered, police said. Alfas was booked on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run causing injury or death, and bail was set at $50,000, police said.

On Wednesday, Long Beach police detectives presented their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, which filed felony charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence against both drivers in the collision, police said.

On Thursday, detectives arrested Menjivar at his residence, and he was taken to Long Beach City jail for booking, with bail set at $50,000. Both men remain in custody, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detective Shawn Loughlin at 562-570-7355 or Crime Stoppers at 800- 222-8477.
