The driver of a speeding vehicle that ran a red light was arrested and expected to face criminal charges for the South Los Angeles crash that killed three women and injured their rideshare driver and himself, authorities said Sunday.
The driver was identified as 31-year-old Gregory Black.
The crash occurred about 5:25 a.m. Saturday at South Vermont Avenue and West Century Boulevard, several blocks west of the Harbor (110) Freeway, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Black was northbound on Vermont at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light and collided with the victims' vehicle that was westbound on Century, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Three women rideshare passengers were killed in the crash. The Medical Examiner's office identified them as 23-year-old Juvelyn Arroyo and sisters 23-year- old Veronica Amezola and 27-year-old Kimberly Izquierdo. Their cities of residence were not made available.
Paramedics rushed the 38-year-old woman driving the rideshare vehicle and Black to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, where they had stable vital signs, police said.
A GoFundMe account was created for the family of the Izquierdo and Amezola.
