Unite Here Local 11, the hospitality workers union, celebrated in downtown L.A. outside of the Intercontinental Hotel on Monday. KNX News’ Craig Fiegener reported that the labor deal means that many hotel workers will start earning an extra $900 a month.
Thousands of workers will see an immediate pay increase of $5 an hour plus retroactive pay – which will compensate workers for unpaid work that was already performed – and then an increase of $10 an hour by 2028.
“It's huge. This is the best contract we've ever won, right, in our union's history,” said Unite Here 11 spokesperson Maria Hernandez. “ I think it just shows the commitment that when workers fight they can win and they can really push to make sure that these large corporations like hotels are held accountable and are paying their fair share.”
She said there are still 26 hotels that aren’t a part of this deal that the union will continue to fight for.
