Four people were arrested in connection to the death of “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor.
A source with the Los Angeles Police Department told KNX News that the people were detained after search warrants were served Thursday morning in South L.A.
Robert Barceleau, 18, of Huntington Park; Sergio Estrada, 18; and Leonel Gutierrez, 18, were all booked on suspicion of murder. Frank Olano, 22, of Inglewood, was booked on suspicion of being an accessory to the killing.
Jail records showed both Barceleau, Gutierrez and Olano all being held in lieu of $2 million bail. There was no record of Estrada in the jail system as of late Thursday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Times, citing an affidavit in support of a search warrant, reported that police targeted Barceleau, Estrada and Gutierrez because their fingerprints were allegedly found on a floor jack they used while trying to steal Wactor's catalytic converter.
Olano's role in the case remained unclear.
Wactor was shot to death on May 25 in downtown L.A. while walking to his car with his coworker after his shift at a neighborhood bar. Police believe the suspects were trying to steal his catalytic converter when one of them shot the 37-year-old.
Earlier this week, Wactor’s mother and friends gathered at L.A. City Hall and urged Mayor Karen Bass and city officials to take action not only regarding Wactor’s death but also crime in the city as a whole.
“Murder is wrong. Theft is wrong,” Scarlett, Johnny’s mother, said. “It doesn't matter your color, your financial background. Right, left, middle. Even the criminals don't want to be murdered and have their stuff stolen. I mean, think about it. You have got to stand up. If you don't, it's never going to change. Johnny's death will have been in vain.”
