Four women were killed and a man was arrested in a multi-vehicle crash in Malibu Tuesday night.

The crash happened at 8:30 p.m. in the 21600 block of the Pacific Coast Highway.

The driver was identified as Fraser Bohm, 22. Bohm was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, but he has been released from custody, L.A. County Sheriff's Capt. Jennifer Seetoo said during a press conference.

According to Seetoo, Bohm was driving in the westbound lane when he lost control of his car and swerved toward the north shoulder, causing him to collide into three parked cars. Those cars hit four women.

The woman were pronounced dead the scene. They were identified by Pepperdine University officials as Niamn Rolston, Peyton Stewart, Asha Weird, and Deslyn Williams, all seniors from the university's Seaver College of Liberal Arts.

"Earlier today, we learned that four precious lives who brought joy and light to our campus were taken from us suddenly, tragically, and incomprehensibly," Pepperdine University President Jim Gash wrote in a message to students.

Residents in the area told KNX News' Jon Baird that a fraternity party was going on in the area; however, it's unclear if the victims or if Bohm were at that party.

Detectives are investigating if Bohm was impaired at the time of the crash.

In the press conference, Seetoo called for stepped-up enforcement efforts, saying that she believes the new speed cameras being installed next year will save lives.

"We've got to change with the times," she said. "The technology is an option."

Pacific Coast Highway was closed from Carbon Canyon to Las Flores Canyon in both directions, according to City News Service.

All PCH lanes reopened just after 10:32 a.m., according to the LASD Lost Hills Station.
