Five people were killed in a high-speed crash in Santa Ana on Saturday night.

It happened on Sergerstrom Ave. around 11:25 p.m., according to the Santa Ana Police Department.

The car had been traveling westbound “at a high rate of speed” before the driver lost control and collided with a tree, according to Officer Natalie Garcia with the department.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found five females and one man inside the car. The 18-year-old male was the driver.

Four people were pronounced dead at the scene, and two were taken to the hospital. The fifth person, a teenager, was later pronounced dead. Only one person survived.

A man who said he heard the crash happen described the sound to KNX News’ Jon Baird as being like a “bomb.”

“It was like an explosion, and I've heard cars flip before…and you hear more happening after, like the car rolling, but this was literally just one sound,” he said. “That's it. Just an explosion. Just boom, and there was nothing.”

The crash remains under investigation.
