Nine people were arrested in downtown Los Angeles during a law enforcement sweep targeting retail theft, police said Friday.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the "blitz operation" was conducted Wednesday at FIGat7th Plaza in the 700 block of South Figueroa Street, where nine suspects were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, grand theft, and commercial burglary.


The LAPD said in a statement,

"A blitz operation is when law enforcement strategically saturates an area with personnel and resources to address a specific issue," according to the LAPD.

Retailers at the plaza have been constant targets of thefts, leading to daily losses of thousands of dollars, police said.

Arrested during the operation were 43-year-old Jose Cano, 19-year-old Emilia Micoi, 19-year-old Ana Marie Gandac, 33-year-old Carlos Dominguez, 39- year-old Luis Amaya, 34-year-old Richard Green, 28-year-old Justin Carter, 47- year-old Jesse Lamb, and a juvenile suspect.

Police said detectives recovered makeup, perfumes, a security tag and other miscellaneous items during the arrests.
