The tagged buildings that were abandoned seven years ago have been picked up by the KPC Group, who pledge to clean them up over the next three months.
The development firm is taking over the construction project after buying the property, known as the Oceanwise Plaza, in partnership with the original contractor, Lendlease.
KNX News’ Jon Baird spoke to people in downtown L.A. who said they’re ready for the cleanup.
“It's not good when such a big building is empty and abandoned in the heart of the city,” said one person.
Another person said that the cleanup of buildings would make downtown look nicer; however, some people think that the graffiti is cool.
“I'd like to see something done with the building, but I do like the graffiti,” said another person.
In 2024, people snuck onto the property and tagged a bunch of the upper floors with graffiti and performed social media stunts.
KPC said that they will relaunch the construction and hope to have most of it before the 2028 Olympics.
