A South L.A. high school student died this month after being beaten up in a school bathroom. Just weeks later, another girl at the same school was attacked on Thursday.
The mother of 16-year-old Shaylee Mejia reportedly complained to Manual Arts High School administrators in December when her daughter was beaten up for the first time. An attorney for Mejia’s family said the school didn’t do anything in response.
Mejia was beaten up again in early March. She complained of a headache, and a few days later she fainted and fell unconscious. She died of a brain hemorrhage. KNX News’ Emily Valdez spoke to a woman who said her caregiver’s daughter, who also attends Manual Arts, was beaten up Thursday by a group of girls. She also complained that the school administrators didn’t take the attack seriously.

“I just felt that it was only one administrator,” the woman said. “I understand that there's probably six to seven kids involved so it was minimized as a fight. It's just school, just kids fighting.”
The high school's principal sent out a note that claimed the incident with Mejia happened off-campus and that they are offering counseling to students.
