A community and a Laker legend came together to help a family rebuild after the Eaton fire.
Linda and Gary Zeigler broke ground on their new home on Tuesday.
“This journey has definitely not been easy, but I remind myself often that this is only a season,” Linda told the crowd at the breaking ground ceremony.
The rebuild was made possible through the partnership of HPP Cares, the ReBuild Center, Home Depot, and Laker legend A.C. Green.
“We as Lakers, Dr. Jerry Buss used to always say that it's our community, it's our fans,” Green said at the ceremony. “It’s the people that really make us who we are who make showtime, OK? And I say that to say it's a team that makes this happen right here.”
The Eaton fire destroyed more than 6, 000 single family homes, and despite the slow start to the permitting process, roughly 44% of Eaton survivor homeowners have been fully approved to start rebuilding in Altadena.
There are now 1,700 homes in the process of being rebuilt in Altadena with 33 homes completely rebuilt.
