The city of Anaheim received a $3 million grant to help clear a homeless encampment along the 91 Freeway.
The grant is part of $192 million in state funds announced by the California Interagency Council on Homelessness. The money is designated to address homelessness in the state and is divided between several cities and counties.
The money allotted to Anaheim will be used to move 75 people into temporary housing first, with the hope of securing them permanent housing after.
“This new funding will get people out of tents and into housing across California,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a news release. “As the state provides unprecedented resources like this, we also expect accountability. Local governments must ensure this funding – and all homeless funding – is getting people out of encampments.”
