Local animal rights advocates have filed a federal complaint asking for the feds to investigate animal cruelty on Skid Row.

KNX News’ Emily Valdez reported the complaint was filed on behalf of Starts With One Today, an animal rescue group that has documented animal cruelty and neglect on Skid Row.

Vanessa Shakib, the founder of Advancing Law for Animals, filed the complaint. She said the city has failed the animals.

“We have federal law that prohibits inflicting serious bodily harm on animals,” she said. “We have federal law prohibiting reckless breeding, prohibiting animal fighting.”

Shakib said they are going to the feds because they say the city of L.A. has not taken meaningful action to stop the animal abuse.
