The crash occurred Aug. 12 around 10:50 p.m., when a black Infiniti sedan being driven west on Van Nuys Boulevard at a high rate of speed veered to the right to pass another vehicle west of Lev Avenue, then struck a bicyclist who was also heading west on Van Nuys.

"The force of the collision caused the bicyclist to be thrown in a northwest direction, colliding with a parked car before coming to rest on the sidewalk," according to an LAPD statement.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene, where they pronounced 44-year-old David Rodriguez of Los Angeles dead at the scene.

Anyone with additional information regarding the crash was urged to contact LAPD Valley Traffic Division Detective Otrosina at 818-644-8036 or Officer Garcia at 818-644-8117.
