The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting of a man by deputies on Wednesday night in Lancaster.
The allegedly armed man was shot around 11:10 p.m. in the 500 block of W Avenue J-12, deputies said in a statement. LASD responded to the neighborhood after they learned that a man who was a “known criminal threats suspect” was parked outside of a home in the neighborhood.

Deputies identified the person in that home as a “victim” in their statement, but have not shared what they were a victim of.
Responding deputies approached the suspect, who they said was holding a rifle, but said he became “uncooperative and barricaded himself inside of his vehicle.”
The shooting happened after more than an hour and a half of negotiations, according to deputies. At least one deputy shot the suspect after he allegedly raised his rifle and pointed it at the deputies from inside the car.
LASD said the man suffered at least one gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. No deputies were injured.
Deputies continued to search the area for possible surveillance video or witnesses.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
A statement shared by the department indicates that several investigations will begin as a result of the deputy-involved shooting.
The Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau will perform separate investigations, and the Office of the Inspector General will act as oversight.
According to the statement, “Once concluded, a preliminary review is conducted by the Critical Incident Review Panel to determine whether any immediate actions are warranted.”
