Authorities at UCLA reportedly detained more than 40 people in the campus parking garage on Monday morning.

KNX News’ Jon Baird reported that people were being zip-tied with plastic handcuffs at the Visitor Parking 2 on campus. Police are wearing riot gear.

The people were believed to have been arrested for breaking some kind of curfew violation. A video posted by Baird showed an officer telling a group of people indicating a curfew violation.

"Between 12 and 6 is a curfew. They were here before then and so as a result, we asked them for ID. They refused," the officer said. "That's the language and I know they were here before them because we have the call."

A woman heard off camera, who identified as a faculty member, said there is no curfew on campus.

A police officer confirmed to KNX News’ Jon Baird there was a sit-in at Moore Hall and police cordoned off the area for several hours.

People's City Council Los Angeles wrote about the about the sit-in on X just before 7:20 a.m. on Monday.

Officers were able to convince the pro-Palestinian group to leave the hall.

“Come and support if you can, be cautious and come in groups, there is no legal precedent to stop students from accessing a university building!” the post read.

UCLA BruinALERT wrote on X that classes in Moore Hall would be remote due to “ongoing disruptions.”

A student watching from across the street told Baird they said didn't like the way things went down.

“I think it's reprehensible truly that the cops react so quickly when it comes to student peaceful protesters,” they said.

This comes a week after over 200 pro-Palestinian demonstrators were arrested at UCLA on May 2 as police dismantled the encampment. On Sunday, Chancellor Gene Block announced the creation of the Office of Campus Safety.
