Arrest made in death of woman found in car trunk in Lancaster

LANCASTER (CNS) - A 37-year-old man was behind bars Friday in connection with the death of a woman whose charred body was found in the trunk of a car in Lancaster.

Matthew Switalski was arrested Thursday in Kern County and booked on suspicion of murder, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff's officials said Switalski owns the home in the 41400 block of 38th Street West where the body was found around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when fire crews extinguished a fire in the garage.

The body of the woman, who has not been identified, was found in the trunk of a car that was parking in the garage, sheriff's officials said. A cause of death has not been released.

Neighbors told reporters at the scene the woman was a teacher, and the suspect is believed to be her boyfriend.

Switalski was being held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to sheriff's department records.
