
A suspect is in custody being questioned by LAPD on suspicion of arson in the Kenneth Fire, Ventura County Sheriff's officials tell KNX News.
In a post on X, the LAPD later confirmed, "[Thursday], at 4:32 p.m., a radio call was generated on the 21700 block of Ybarra Road for a possible arson suspect. A male was heard stating a suspect was 'attempting to light a fire.'"
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Topanga Station.
The department said their investigation is ongoing and "CANNOT confirm any connection to any fire by this suspect" at this time.
No other information about the suspect has been released.
The fire, originally called the Kennith Fire and then changed to Kenneth by Cal Fire, was first reported around 3:30 p.m. at 4850 W Victory Bl., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. It was initially estimated at 50 acres, and within 90 minutes it had exploded to 791 acres.
At approximately 7:45 PM on Thursday, the VCFD shared via X that forward progress had been stopped as the blaze grew to 960 acres, still at 0% containment.
