On Monday, Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Austin Beutner spoke at a Pacific Palisades campaign event where he criticized Mayor Karen Bass, saying she’s failed L.A. when it comes to rebuilding the Palisades.

“Mayor Bass says the buck stops with her, but she denies any responsibility,” he said. “Instead of acknowledging that mistakes were made in making changes, she's allowing a cover-up to occur. A columnist for the L.A. Times called the fire department's report issued by the mayor about the fires, and I'm quoting here, “a blatant attempt to mislead the public.” The original author of the report refused to sign his name on the final product, saying it was highly unprofessional.”

Beutner also spoke with KNX News’ Craig Fiegener. When asked if he would pledge to stay in the U.S. if elected mayor, Beutner said he would stay in L.A.

“The job of a mayor is to fix the damn potholes, keep people safe,” he said. “Address the intractable issue of homelessness. Let's figure out a way to make our city more affordable. Those are all right here. They're not in Africa. They're not in Europe. They're not in South America. They're not in Antarctica. They're right here in Los Angeles.”

On Tuesday, Mayor Bass will join KNX News’ 97.1 FM to discuss her reelection campaign and respond to her critics.
