Authorities identify woman found dead near Long Beach bike path

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KNX) — Police have identified a woman found dead in Long Beach over the weekend as the investigation continues into her death.

The body of Genesis Rivera, 28, was found shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday next to a building located in the 1900 block of East Ocean Boulevard, in a sandy patch north of a bike path. Rivera’s city of residence was not known as of Thursday.

"Homicide detectives were called to the scene due to the suspicious location of the body and lack of explanation for her death," Long Beach police said in a statement.

Authorities have not disclosed any theory as to Rivera’s cause of death. The case has been placed on a security hold, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
