Authorities respond to reports of an active shooter atop a Walnut Park roof

WALNUT PARK, Calif. (KNX) — Authorities arrested a man suspected of firing shots from a rooftop Monday morning in the unincorporated Walnut Park area of Los Angeles County.

Sheriff’s officials said the situation was taking place near the area of Santa Fe Avenue and Sale Place, where they received reports of a gunman shooting from a neighborhood roof.

Around 6:45 a.m., a man was seen lying on his back on the roof of a home in that area, according to KTLA.

He could be seen with his arms and legs spread out as if he were trying to surrender, the outlet reported. What also appeared to be a gun could be seen on the front lawn of the home.

An armored vehicle with several officers could also be seen in the street near the home, according to KTLA.

The standoff came to an end after about two hours, according to City News Service. The man was treated at the scene for an unspecified injury.

There was no information about the suspect or what may have prompted the incident available.
