A search is underway for a 5-year-old girl who was swept into the ocean in Laguna Beach on Tuesday night.
Around 7:30 p.m., the girl was with her mom and her brother when one of the waves knocked the trio from the shoreline into the water near Treasure Island Beach.
Bystanders stepped in to help rescue the mom and the brother, but they couldn’t reach the little girl.
The Laguna Beach Marine Safety Department, the Harbor Patrol of the OC Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Coast Guard are searching for her. On Wednesday, Laguna Beach officials said they were moving from a search and rescue operation to recovery mode.
Treasure Island Beach has been shut down since the incident.
