Big rig crash on I-10 in Riverside County causes fire, spills 150 gallons of diesel on roadway

CHIRIACO SUMMIT, Calif. (KNX) — A crash involving two big rigs resulted in a fuel spill and fire early Saturday morning on Interstate 10 near Chiriaco Summit in Riverside County.

The collision was reported at 4 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway at Cottonwood Springs Road, according to Riverside County fire officials.

The Riverside County Fire Department said one of the trucks ended up on its side, but no injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

A fire was sparked after the crash, but was contained about 45 minutes later. A hazmat crew was at work cleaning up about 150 gallons of diesel that leaked from both trucks, according to the fire department.

According to California Highway Patrol, the Number One lane remained temporarily closed for the cleanup effort as of 11 a.m. Saturday.
