A body was found Thursday at the base of a seaside cliff near Royal Palms Park in San Pedro, but it was not immediately known how the person died.
Firefighters responded to the 2300 block of West Paseo Del Mar around 12:57 p.m. to assist county lifeguards in recovering the body, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It was unclear how the person wound up at the bottom of the cliff, and the Los Angeles Police Department's Harbor Division was conducting an investigation.
