A water main break in the Long Beach area has prompted officials to issue a boil water notice.

The main burst Wednesday at 3504 Orange Ave., according to the Long Beach Utilities Department.  The notice was issued to those who live in the zip codes of 90805, 90807, and parts of 90806.

“Residents and businesses located in these areas are advised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution to avoid stomach or intestinal illness,” officials said.

Toni, an impacted resident, described the moment she heard the water main break.

“I heard it from my window here it was, and I watched it from my ring camera,” she told KNX News’ Jon Baird. “It looked like it was around 11:13, 11:15 [a.m.] I ran outside and I told my husband to come out to the front. He was in the back and we saw the water coming up pretty quickly.”

She added that city crews responded immediately.

“We're just trying to do everything we can on our end,” she said. “It's also we're trying not to waste water and conserve it in the same breath.”

Lauren, who owns Goods on Orange, said her store was nearly flooded.

“The water was too near the little arched entryway to our shop, going very quickly up the road,” she said.

Residents or businesses who need more information on the Boil Water Notice are asked to call Long Beach Utilities at (562) 570-2390.
