The crash was reported at 10:17 a.m. Wednesday in the 4400 block of North Woodman Avenue, near Moorpark Avenue south of the Ventura (101) Freeway, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The vehicle, a Lexus, struck the box truck parked along the street, which was described as a delivery vehicle. It was not immediately clear how fast the car was traveling.

The boy, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene, Stewart said.

Three other people were taken to a hospital. A woman and a 10-year-old boy, who were not injured, were transported as a precaution under standard protocol for fatal crashes, Stewart said. A third person, not involved in the collision, was transported for unrelated medical reasons, she added.

Los Angeles police and the mayor's crisis management team were at the scene assisting the victim's family, Stewart said.

The Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division was investigating the crash.
