First, it was smoke from the Lineage warehouse. Then there was an intense odor from rotting food inside the warehouse. Now, Boyle Heights residents are dealing with a new issue stemming from the warehouse fire - rats.
Alicia, who lives about half a block from the warehouse, told KNX News’ Jon Baird she’s seen two rats inside her house.
“Our dogs that we have, one that's very vicious, so it actually killed maybe about three in the backyard,” she said.
Lauren, another resident, has also spotted them in the area.
“I've seen some kind of coming out of the building and like along the sides of the street,” she said.
Local officials say they want Lineage, the company that runs the warehouse, to do more about the rodent problem.
The warehouse fire started on June 17 at the Lineage cold storage facility on South Los Palos St. and reignited once again on June 19. A knockdown was declared on June 24; however, fire officials say the fire is still smoldering deep inside the building.
The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.
