After nearly 100 days on strike, the WGA and the Producers Alliance are tentatively discussing a return to the negotiating table to hammer out a deal.

Deadline senior editor Dominic Patten told KNX News, "It is going to be a long road back to the negotiating table, but from the stalemate that we've seen up until just a few days ago, we are seeing some openings happening."

Patten says it is still early, and things are fluid, but attorneys for both sides are talking, and it's the first time in months that insiders have expressed a sense of cautious optimism.

Topics at the top of the WGA's agenda include minimum staffing, a streaming residual based on viewership, and protections involving the use of artificial intelligence.

There have been no formal talks since the writers hit the picket line on May 2.
