Police say a new trend is beginning to pop up in how criminals commit burglaries.

In several Southern California cities – including Chino Hills, Calabasas, Garden Grove, Glendale, La Crescenta, and now Alhambra – police say burglars have been using surveillance cameras to scout out the homes of potential victims and make sure no one is home before breaking in.

Alhambra Police Sgt. Mike Montano said that when officers responded to an attempted burglary at a home on Primrose Street on Monday, a neighbor told them he’d found a small camera camouflaged in his bushes.

“There was tape and some things on it that made it kind of blend into the bushes,” he told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou.

Montano said this is the first time the department has seen thieves using cameras to gain intelligence on homes. He recommends checking your yards and bushes. If you find anything suspicious, call the police.
