California and 22 other states are suing the Trump administration over scathing cuts in public health funding.
The Department of Health and Human Services cut $11 billion from state and local programs. Money Attorney General Rob Bonta says is critical to supporting California's health systems.

According to Bonta, the state would lose nearly $1 billion, including more than $45 million intended for Los Angeles County to aid in its response to infectious disease outbreaks.
"The Public Health Department will have to let go of most of its outbreak team, which means it won't be able to adequately respond to infectious disease outbreaks at schools, on work sites, in assisted living facilities, shelters, or jails," he said.
Bonte called the cuts "dangerous, arbitrary, capricious, and unlawful" and caused "widespread chaos and confusion." He hopes a court will temporarily block them as the legal case plays out.
