The California Independent System Operator is issuing a statewide Flex Alert for Friday due to extreme temperatures.

California ISO is asking consumers to voluntarily conserve electricity from 4PM to 9PM, saying it "would help ease the strain on the grid during the crucial evening hours when solar energy is diminished or no longer available."

In addition to asking people to conserve energy, California ISO is also encouraging people to set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using major appliances, and turn off all unnecessary lights.
