A witness told the CHP the car struck the guardrail on the off-ramp and "flew" onto the road below where it was starting to catch fire.
Three to four people were injured, according to the CHP. That included one person the witness said might have been ejected.
The extent of injuries was not available, but investigators called for the vehicle to be towed to a secured lot as evidence which was an indicator that at least some injuries were serious.
A SigAlert was issued at 11:11 p.m. shutting down the Francisquito Avenue on-ramp and off-ramp. It was canceled at 1:47 a.m. Monday.
