Some residents who live near the Dolby Theatre had their cars towed away Sunday, long before the Oscars began, and had to pay a small fortune to get their cars back.

KNX News Jon Baird reported that there were signs posted warning residents of no stopping on Sunday between 6 a.m. and midnight.  A delivery driver who was in the area that day told Baird the towing trucks showed up, ready to go.

“Six, seven towing trucks were waiting to tow people's cars with the parking enforcement, and I saw they were just fully towing people’s cars, nonstop after another after another,” he said.

A man named Tony said he saw the tow trucks come out earlier.

“They were all there primed at 5:45 (a.m.), and I saw a parade of them going down Franklin Avenue with a cop car behind them,” he said.

Baird called the towing company, and they confirmed it was $409 for people to get a car back.

LADOT issued a statement saying they post signs well in advance, but people who feel their cars were towed by mistake can request a hearing.
