A judge dismissed charges Thursday against a man who threatened to kill Los Angeles Councilmember Bob Blumenfield during a September City Council meeting.

According to Blumenfield, during public comment on Sept. 8, Donald Harlan looked at him and said, “I’m going to kill you and all your Jewish people.” Harlan was arrested earlier this month and charged with disrupting a public meeting.

The case was transferred from criminal court to the Mental Health Court at the New Hollywood Courthouse. During a preliminary hearing, Judge Maria Cavalluzzi dismissed the case on the grounds that Harlan isn’t mentally competent to stand trial.

As he left the courthouse, Harlan told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener he’s “not apologetic,” but denied that he intended to harm Blumenfield.

“I’m not actively trying to do something like that,” he said.

Blumenfield sought and received a restraining order against Harlan. He’s still allowed to attend council meetings, but can’t directly address the councilmember.
