An arson suspect has a date in Superior Court Thursday after being apprehended by residents who told Sheriff's Deputies in Chatsworth they noticed him setting a fire in the brush at Knapp Ranch Road and Woolsey Canyon Road Road.

Monday afternoon, Malibu Lost Hill Station deputies got a call from residents near Woolsey Canyon holding a man they'd observed setting a fire in the brush at Knapp Canyon and Woolsey Canyon Road.

The fire only burned about 100 square feet before being put out by county fire crews.

Deputies took a man tentatively identified as Alejandro Martinez into custody and then handed the case over to their arson explosives team, who are working on asking the DA's office to file felony arson charges against the man.

Detectives have not yet released information on how the fire actually started or whether Martinez has any prior arrest history for arson.

Martinez was set to appear in Superior Court for an initial appearance on Wednesday, at which time a more definitive charge against him may be entered.
